I did a little research on magnesium recentlyYou may have read my DIY post for magnesium spray. It was surprising to learn that many of us are deficient in magnesium.
Dr. Amy Myers says, “Magnesium, which is important not only for immune function but also heart health, is a mineral most people are chronically low in due to high levels of stress and high-sugar diets (sugar depletes magnesium levels). Magnesium deficiency has been shown to cause an increased production of proinflammatory cytokines, which raise your overall level of inflammation, contributing to autoimmunity."
Also, if you are deficient you may have headaches, nausea, restless legs, difficulty sleeping, irritability, stress, emotional lows, high blood sugar, and even muscle cramps. Using the spray is a great way to get magnesium when a bath isn’t possible/practical — but this magnesium lotion is perfect as well. And it's very nourishing to your skin too.
Magnesium is helpful for supporting restful sleep, soothing sore muscles and easing occasional headaches, and this body butter makes it very convenient to apply — it’s good for all ages. Plus, according to Dr. Axe, “It has been found that magnesium, despite being available in many dietary sources, is not best absorbed orally. Magnesium taken orally is affected by a number of elements in your gut, and can also act as a laxative, which reduces the amount of time the mineral can be absorbed in the body.” Ain't nobody got time for THAT.
How about a nice calming foot massage instead?
I made this whipped body butter in probably about 30 minutes total - and a lot of that time was just waiting for those stinkin’ little beeswax pellets to melt….. It’s like they take FOREVER and then *poof* they’re gone.
Calming Magnesium Butter
So what do you need?1/2 cup avocado oil. (this oil is amazing for your skin, and has a load of other benefits)1/2 cup mango butter* (shea or coco butter would work as well)
2 tablespoons beeswax
1 cup magnesium flakes* dissolved in 1/2 cup hot water
30 drops of Balance* grounding blend, 10 drops Myrrh* essential oils (or oils of choice)Two wide mouth jars.
And how do I make it?
In a double-boiler, over low heat, place a jar containing the avocado oil, mango butter, and beeswaxOnce melted, let cool until it is at room temperatureAdd magnesium oil and essential oils, place in bowl of mixer and blend until creamy
Transfer to jars and keep in refrigerator for up to 90 days. For small children and babies, use 1/8 teaspoon. For adults, up to 1 teaspoon.
This butter is great to use just before bedtime as the calming effects from the oils will be wonderful. (I added Myrrh to this recipe not just for its calming/soothing properties, but also because it can be beneficial if you someone who gets rheumatoid nodules. I have not dealt with them until recently. I currently have a lumpy elbow that I would like to improve & soothe. LOL. I’ll keep you all posted on the results.
